Equipment name
X-ray powder diffractometer

Make/Model
Phillips

Description
X-ray diffraction is primarily used for mineral identification. Packed powders or polished samples are placed in the sample holder and the user selects how to run the sample via a computer interface program which stores the X-ray diffraction profile. Computer software is available to help interpret the results (peak identification, search-match, etc). Results can be printed out on a colour printer. Lab also includes bench space with sink, sample holders, and a mortar and pestle for preparing samples. Users must be registered and wear a X-ray dosage badge while using the facility.
